ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 Schedule

The final fixtures of ICC Cricket World cup 2011 has been announced with India taking Bangladesh in the opening match. India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will be the hosts with Mumbai hosting the final of the World cup. It seems ICC took lessons from 2007 world cup and has divided the teams in two groups so that big teams qualify.

International Cricket Council's (ICC) World Cup Organising Committee, headed by former cricket board president Sharad Pawar, on Tuesday decided to shift the 2011 World Cup secretariat to Mumbai from Lahore, after Pakistan was stripped of their 2011 World Cup hosting rights by the ICC earlier this month due to security concerns.

India will host the final and one semi-final of the 2011 World Cup while Sri Lanka will stage the other semi-final, the tournament's organising committee decided in Mumbai on Tuesday. India will host 29 of the 49 matches across eight venues, Sri Lanka will host 12 in three venues while Bangladesh will stage eight at two grounds as well as the opening ceremony on February 18, 2011.

Bangladesh would host the opening ceremony of the 2011 World Cup as well as eight matches, which would be played on two venues, Lorgat said.

The 14 matches originally scheduled to take place in Pakistan have been redistributed with eight going to India, four to Sri Lanka and two to Bangladesh. The quarter-finals will be shared India and Sri Lanka one each while Bangladesh hosting two.

The ICC's decision has left India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh as the three sub-continental co-hosts of the mega event.

India vs Sri Lanka 2009 ODI, Test & T20 Series Schedule

Sri Lanka is going to visit India on a full-fledged series comprising of 3 tests, 2 Twenty20 internationals and 5 ODI matches. Sri Lanka’s tour of India begins on 11 November with the three-day practice match against India Board President XI. Test series starting from 16 November comes after that, followed by Twenty20 internationals and ODI series. The two neighboring cricket playing countries will be looking to dominate against each other as both sides had considerable amount of success in international stage over the last few months. So, cricket fans can expect a highly exciting cricket series between India and Sri Lanka.

Overall, Sri Lanka’s tour of India seems to offer lots of exciting actions for the cricket lovers who always enjoy excitement during the matches; be it twenty20 or test match. Test cricket is currently facing a threat from the twenty20 format of the game in terms of popularity. No doubt, Indian cricket fans always love cricket and they have a huge fan base. Still, crowd turn out in the test series may not be very satisfactory, given the decreasing popularity of this version of the game. It may not be a major worry of concern for the TV channels and the organizers as the tour includes two Twenty20 matches as well as a three-match test series. So, TV channel and organizers can make some quick cash in through the twenty20 and ODI series in what could be a compensation for the test series.
